"Full Moon Over Hickory"

From: Dr. Herb Williams -- Writer, Director, Producer

FULL MOON OVER HICKORY
Logline: When three sisters, Rachel, Lu and Sarah, connected by love and their profession as nurturing nurses are held captive by thugs, whose interstate drug deal has gone bad, they must learn new ways of dealing with death and mayhem to save themselves and Lu's children. It is a painful story of lessons learned the hard way.
“FULL MOON OVER HICKORY” is my first feature production. I started writing about 3 years ago. I have several screenplays in various stages of development. “Full Moon Over Hickory” is the first I have completed. I tried to sell it to Hollywood, but they are inundated with over 4000 offers a year and produce only 400 films. The odds are not good. So, after 6 months, 100 letters and only one request for the script to be sent and no follow-up from that one request, I decided I'm too old to spend 10 years building a writing career, so why bother when I can build a directing and producing career in one or two years (with a little luck). So I called Janie at Images. She was interested in reading the script and after she read it, she agreed to cast it. And I'm so glad she did.
We have a great cast, and I think we'll have a meaningful movie. Several scenes have brought tears to more than a few eyes, there's also a few laughs, not many but a few, and lots of tension. Movie making and acting are about emotions and story. You have to tell an interesting story and it must connect on a personal level. People watch movies for many reasons, from simple escape from a humdrum week, to an adrenaline rush, to the deeper exploration of the human psyche. “Full Moon Over Hickory” does not portend to be everything to everybody, but we do have a little something for most adults. This movie is not intended for young viewers.
This has been a learning experience. It’s been fun at times and hell at times. From a sore back, to a sore leg from a fall on a stomp, to frayed nerves from trying to coordinate the schedules of 53 people to special effects gone haywire to interpersonal conflicts, we’ve run the full gamut. It’s been worth it, and I will do it again. Not sure all the cast feel the same but next time I’ll write fewer roles, one of those important lessons.
